The Client Brief states that; the film can be a maximum of 10 minutes long, must conform to a recognisable genre, we can work in a maximum group of 3 and we must all have specific roles in the production, and finally, all content must be original and produced by you.
Pineclones is in the guide lines of the client brief as it meets all of the requirements we were given by the client as it is below the maximum 10 minute run time, the film itself has a running time of 00:06:03, it also easily identifies as a horror film as it meets the codes and conventions of a horror film and we also worked in a group of three and assigned each member of the group a specific role.
Ben: Camera Operator/ Editor
Aalyan: Director/ Sound
Joe: Consumes/Props/ Equipment Manager
I believe that Pineclones easily identifies as a horror film for many reasons. The music we used is that of a horror film (slow build up with an intense beat to build tension in the film) we got this music from a royalty free website as we didn't want any legal issues with copyright etc. we also took advantage of post production and made the shots look a lot darker to give the illusion that we filmed at night and we included subtle tints of red, a colour commonly attached to a film in the horror genre.
The common codes and conventions of a horror film are as follows; a title sequence at the start, ambient dietetic sounds, low lighting, tense music, close ups, POV, blood, violence, hand held camera work, no phone signal, early death, shot scene cuts and isolated locations.
I believe that Pineclones easily identifies as a horror film for many reasons. The music we will be using will be that of a horror film (slow build up with an intense beat to build tension in the film). we will also be taking advantage of post production and make the shots look a lot darker to give the allusion that we filmed at night and we will interpret subtle tints of red, a colour commonly attached to a film in the horror genre.
The setting for pineclones is an isolated place which is often used in horror films to give the impression the the victims are all alone with the killer. POV shots in pineclones allow the audience to see the world from the man in the masks eyes as he chases after the boys. Disturbing sounds are used throughout pineclones, most of the sounds we use are Ambient Dietetic sounds like footsteps, diegetic sounds build tension as the audience can hear the noise but they can't see the source of it. And finally we plan to use long periods of slow editing to foreshadow something bad that is about to happen this is done because it helps to build up tension in the film
To further relate to the client brief, Pineclones meets all the audience pleasures these being: Diversion and Relationships.
Diversion
In our film there are many entertainment factors that relate to diversion. There is many comedic factors within the film that are based off the characters not being the smartest. The comedic factors is more used as comedic relief as the film is relatively action packed and serious as it is within the genre. Thus leading to another entertaining factor with that being the action within the film, we have small confrontation/fight scene which then leads to a fact paced foot chase in a POV shot.
Relationships
Relationships is a major part of the film as within the short film we see the great friendship bond between 3 close friends. In the film we reinforced this by showing how they were willing there own lives to save a each other. In the film when Joe is found dead, the boys are initially reluctant to leave until they are certain of what has happened to him and if there is a way of saving him, But they soon realise that by staying they are only putting themselves at risk. Another example of the great bond between the friends is shown in the last scene when Aalyan shows lots of emotion when he sees Ben being killed by the ' Masked Man', in this scene Aalyan tries to save his life but is too slow. Thus leading to an emotional final scene in which Aalyan realises that he has lost his two good friends in.
Finally to also meet the client brief we exported the film as an MP4 file format with a codec of H.264 at 1080p the reasoning for this was is because it makes it is high def and HD meaning it can be played back at a film festival which is required for the brief, the codec makes it suitable for uploading to the internet which allows us to publish and distribute online.

M1: Content, Distribution and Marketing Methods
The film we have created fits the brief as it is below the maximum 10 minute run time, it also easily identifies as a horror film, we are working in a group of three and each member of the group has a specific role.
I have looked through many distributors and after many conversations with others within the production, we have decided that 'Shorts International Ltd" is the best distributor for our horror movie.
Because of the available short film distributors not specifically distributing horror films we have decided to base our decision on what the distributor offers, for example having the "largest catalogue dedicated to short movies" and being able to offer the best short films over the widest variety of areas such as United States, Europe and Asia.
Ben is the acting camera operator/manager, Sam is the editor/audio manager, Aalyan is the director and equipment/prop manager. The idea sparked from a real life experience of the directors and is therefore completely original. The music we will use will be sourced from a copyright free website/content creator for example NCS on youtube.
To promote Pineclones we would use methods such as: media advertisement- these include methods such as advertising on websites such as Twitter and Instagram, by advertising the film on websites such as these will allow our film to reach a greater audience worldwide and will allow our audience to share the film with other people who might enjoy the same content as shown in our film. Another method to promote our film further could possibly be the making of merchandise, this will allow our audience to purchase products related to our film possibly allowing us to gain a larger audience if they see others wearing merchandise like clothing that advertises our film

Attack The Block - Opening Scene - Analysis
In my analysis of the opening scene of ' Attack The Block' I will be discussing the different techniques used in creating a scene.
Mise - En - Scene
The opening of the film starts with a busy London street at night . A woman is introduced wearing a hat, scarf and coat showing the time of year that the film is set in. woman shown walking down busy market street. Children with sparklers and fireworks show the audience that it could be a special event such as bonfire night. Next scene is a poorly lit alleyway and wall displays graffiti showing this is not nice area. Multiple flashes are seen to scare the audience, the woman moves on to a back street with no people but a few cars. A gang are introduce in the distance. the gang then surrounds the woman all wearing dark clothing with their faces covered hinting towards the rime genre. A close confrontation is then shown between the woman and the gang where the woman is in panic. There is bright lighting as an explosion hits the car. Alien is then shown emerging from the car. Banging and flashing show the alien inside a shed.
Camera
In the opening scene the first shot introduces the setting with a wide angle crane shot. This followed by a medium close up shot, introducing the woman at the train station. A tracking shot techniques is used to follow the woman down the street. The next shot is a low angle shot leading into a wide angle shot. This then transitions to a crane shot into a high angle shot still following the woman. We then see a panning shot shifting focus from the woman to a graffitied wall. The next shot is a close up of the woman with a blurred background allowing the audience to experience the same unknown that the woman is going through. This then flashes to a long shot which slowly transitions to a close up of the womans' feet. A long shot is then used to establish the new setting. A close up shot shows us the change of emotion in the woman face as she sees something in distance. This then switches to a POV of the woman looking at the boys ahead of her. A medium shot is then used to show the gang. A tracking shot is then used to follow behind the gang and follow the boy on the bmx on to the road . Continuous close ups of the woman show her emotions during the confrontation whilst switching between mid shots POVs. Shot reverse shot and close ups are then used to focus on the faces of the gang and the woman and her bag during the confrontation. A close up is then used to focus on the knife to be more intimidating and also make the audience feel the threat. A close up of the mans eyes. A tracking shot then follows the alien down rom the sky. A series of tracking shots lead up to the gangs confrontation of the alien. A tracking shot leads into the shed and the close ups are used to show the aliens face. A long shot is then used to show the shed but not the action , this keeps the audience away from the action and in the dark of whats happening. This is followed by a group of over the shoulder shots and shot reverse shots when the gang are talking.
Editing
The opening has slow paced editing a cuts between shots. Flashing lights are then used to show the shadows and a fast scene change shows excitement /fear. Which then slows down when she realises there is no threat as of now. The first meeting between the woman and gang is slow paced which then changes and becomes faster as the confrontation becomes more heated. SFX are used to show the alien descending from the sky and exploding on the car. The scene cuts then slow down again until the main character is attacked by the alien were the scene changes are very fast between the alien and the guy. This fast paced editing and bright flashes continue as they confront the alien in the shed.
Sound
The film starts of with a soundtrack which gets increasingly louder a the shot pans down to when hear the fireworks. The faint sound of a police siren can be heard in the distance repressing the busy city. The soundtrack continues as the scenes change between the woman and the opening credit. We can also hear the woman talking on the phone as well as the background noise of the busy market. We can hear children laughing as we continue to follow the woman who continues speak on the phone. Suddenly loud bangs are heard which accompany the flashes. Music stops and we can hear the footsteps of the woman as she gets sight of the gang. She talks under her breath this shows the audience that she is fearful. An intense soundtrack is then played to emphasise the confrontation between the woman and the gang which then stops as they start to talk. The opening of the knife is a prominent sound this once again is used to show the audience the threat to the woman. Fireworks are still heard in the background. Music is then played and suddenly increases in volume till a loud bang is heard.Soundtrack gets increasingly louder until the jump scare. Loud screaming coming from the alien.Intense fast paced music is played whilst they chase after the alien. Fireworks heard as they are thrown in to shed and more screaming heard from the shed.
